Simplicity, meets luxury

About Karen Richani

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then your home is worth millions

I’m a Venezuelan architect who graduated with honors from La Universidad del Zulia, and because of that, I was offered a job as a professor of History of Art and Architecture. Teaching was something I developed a love for, and I used the opportunity to also experiment with design work as I planned my lessons.

Since then, I have led a nomadic life that has enriched my career and my personal relationships. I’ve been living overseas for more than 16 years and have collected great experiences living alongside many different cultures around the world. Because of that, my design style not only combines the best aspects of many eras and places, but it has also bloomed into something unique.

In 2003, I traveled to Spain and obtained my Master’s degree in High Technology Buildings from la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. After completing my studies, I returned to my country to start my own architectural firm specializing in residential and commercial architecture. I also designed and remodeled many medical facilities.

In 2008, my husband got a job assignment in the Middle East. We moved to Kuwait with our two kids and lived there for approximately half a decade. During this time, I kept working remotely, as no one loves my job more than I do. Being exposed to so many different and rich cultures and having the chance to visit so many beautiful places helped shape what we are today as a family. It was a cultural eye-opener!

We moved again to Venezuela in 2012, and I took some time off from my career to raise my two little boys. After living in Caracas for two years, it was time to pack our things again and move to San Ramon, CA, even though our stay in California lasted less than a year. In 2015, Houston became the place where we have lived the longest as a family, and it is also where my kids have felt at home.

Once we moved to Houston, I decided to continue with my passion: Design. I found great job opportunities, but the one that felt right for my lifestyle was becoming an Interior Designer. Since 2015, I’ve changed my career path and taken my ‘hat off’ as an architect to accomplish my dreams as an Interior Designer.

I think what sets me apart from others is my architectural background and my very diverse and inclusive approach to planning. I appreciate the differences in others and use them to spark my creativity while also taking advantage of my ability to see life from different angles. My personality is also very adaptable and flexible, with a well-grounded sense of reality. I’m always determined to create a design that my clients will love, which is my drive and ultimate goal.
